Job Title: Software Development Engineer – II
Department, Level: Viewer Experiences, X21
Location: Onsite, Bangalore
Work Type: Full time
Job Summary: As an SDE-II, you’ll build backend systems that power the most critical moments in a user’s journey — from opening the app, to experiencing personalized, dynamic content, to experiencing. Your primary focus will be on scaling our platform infrastructure, architecting a state-of-the-art compositor engine, and evolving a multi-widget, server-driven layout system that constructs rich, adaptive pages across all devices. You’ll help ensure that hundreds of millions of users enjoy fast, seamless, and always-on experiences, no matter the time, traffic, or device.
About the team: At JioHotstar, the Viewer Experience (VX) org is at the heart of how millions discover, engage with, and fall in love with our platform. We own the end-to-end user journey—from first app launch to daily habit loops—across Search, Personalization, Watch Experience, Interactivity, and more. We blend world-class engineering, ML, design, and data to deliver a seamless, personalized, and engaging OTT experience at massive scale. If you’re passionate about building immersive, intelligent, and performant user experiences that delight a billion users, join us in shaping the future of streaming.
Reporting To: Engineering Manager
Key responsibilities: ● Own scale-critical paths, ensuring the system can handle peak concurrency, multi-region delivery, and freshness guarantees. ● Build the infrastructure & capabilities that serves as the orchestration layer between downstream services and client apps — enabling faster experimentation, seamless rollouts, that works for every device & platform out there. ● Develop the Compositor Engine that fetches and ranks content blocks (widgets/cards), merges metadata, and serves highly contextualized page definitions to clients in milliseconds. ● Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Frontend teams on use cases like personalized feeds, layouts, and dynamic page composition. ● Improve latency, throughput, and observability across all surfaces where UI is driven from the server — including Homepage, Watch pages, and Detail views. ● Contribute to platform primitives that are used by every other team — including layout DSLs, contract validation, fallback mechanisms, and preview tooling. ● Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and on-call rotations, maintaining high service reliability even during peak traffic.
● Continuously evaluate relevant technologies and influence architecture and design discussions ● Guides and mentors juniors on functional attributes and domain knowledge
Skills and attributes for success: ● Strong coding skills (Golang) ● Experience building or working with architectures for server driven & guided frameworks and Orchestrator platforms ● Strong understanding of database and storage fundamentals ● Performance tuning skills — optimizing for low p90 latency, high cache hit ratios, and multi-region delivery. ● Experience with AWS stack
Preferred education and experience:
Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or a related field with 2-4 years of experience in backend development.
