Job Description Summary

Level 6 will lead the technical development and delivery at Team, Lab and sometimes platform level. They can be a Line Manager who will act as co-lead with the Team PO for overall delivery. In these cases, they will be responsible for overall tech delivery, line management & app ownership alongside their own software engineering output. Others will operate as Individual Contributors, who are specialist experts in particular technology areas and will be narrower and deeper in focus, providing technology leadership, mentoring and guidance.

Job Description

– Design, develop, and maintain complex software applications. Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices.
– Lead code reviews and all aspects of technical delivery to ensure code quality and share knowledge.
– Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the highest quality product platform.
– Identify and implement best practices for software development.
– Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve complex technical issues and bugs.
– Provide technical leadership, mentoring and (where applicable) line management to develop engineering capability.
– Strong understanding of security principles and secure coding practices.
– Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
– Ensure timely delivery by managing tasks and priorities effectively.
– Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
– Accountability over tech debt remediation across own tech assets.*
– Line management focused on effective task allocation and tech delivery.*
– Line manage one or more junior SEs.*
– Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the highest quality product platform.
– Provide hands-on support in troubleshooting, performance tuning, and reliability improvements.
– Mentor other engineers, including early-career engineers, by sharing knowledge, guiding professional behaviours, and adopting best practices.
– Build highly engaged, collaborative communities; drive innovation by exploring emerging technologies and methodologies.
– Communicate effectively with stakeholders, understand requirements, provide updates, and influence strategic decisions.
– Apply both traditional and agile best practices to plan, prioritise, and deliver work efficiently.
– Use logic, prioritisation, and critical thinking to formulate effective solutions and decisions.
– Drive innovation by contributing to technical communities and staying current with emerging technology trends and identify opportunities that benefit the organisation.

– Lead the technical direction of products and domains, taking ownership of delivery, application health, and engineering standards in partnership with Architecture.
– Demonstrate deep system design expertise and a broad technical understanding of the full ecosystem supporting your domain.
– Proficient at least two programming languages and apply them effectively to solve complex problems.

– Accountable for custodianship governance activities on tech assets.

– Applies AI concepts and tools to solve routine problems, adapting approaches to fit specific scenarios with minimal guidance.

– Consistently assess others’ performance using sound judgement and experience, and provide constructive, forward-looking feedback that empowers and inspires improvement.
