Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented and organized Commis to join our culinary team at our Asian cuisine restaurant in Chennai, India. As a Commis, you will work under the guidance of senior kitchen staff to prepare ingredients, maintain kitchen standards, and support the smooth operation of our kitchen brigade. This is an excellent opportunity to launch your culinary career while developing expertise in authentic Asian cooking techniques.

• Prepare and portion ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing vegetables, proteins, and other components according to standardized recipes
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including woks, steamers, fryers, and other specialized Asian cooking tools
• Maintain strict food safety and hygiene standards, including proper food storage, temperature control, and sanitation practices
• Follow recipes and cooking instructions precisely to ensure consistency and quality of dishes
• Assist senior chefs with food preparation during service, working efficiently to meet timing requirements
• Organize and maintain mise en place (preparation of ingredients and tools) for assigned stations
• Support the kitchen team in a collaborative manner, communicating effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth workflow
• Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to supervisors
• Clean and sanitize kitchen workstations, equipment, and utensils according to established protocols
• Contribute to maintaining a safe and organized kitchen environment

Qualifications

• Basic knife skills and food preparation techniques
• Knowledge of Asian cuisine cooking methods (stir-frying, steaming, wok cooking, etc.)
• Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
• Ability to follow recipes and detailed instructions accurately
• Physical stamina to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills
• Familiarity with Asian ingredients, spices, and flavor profiles (preferred)
• Previous kitchen or culinary experience (preferred)
• Food handling or food safety certification (preferred)
